Millennium Music Review

February 2016

In February 2016, I had the pleasure of being the Front Of House Mixer as part of the Millennium Music Conference held in Central Pennsylvania, featured at the Midtown Tavern. This annual event features bands and performers both locally and nationally, who showcase their talents for review by Agents, Talent Scouts and Reverb Nation. As part of a 40-year music career, I have been involved with the Conference for four years. I have seen a number of talented and promising performances and have made good friends along the way…

As one would expect, performances and professionalism range from the beginner to the established and occasionally, the amazing! So it was that I was pleasantly surprised when the band JJGunn took the stage as the third act. Their blend of Rock and Blues blew the house out and was a high musical note to the night’s performances.

The band consists of Vocalist-Guitarist John Bieschke (JohnyB), who brings an impressive resume of performances and history and who guides the band through the various emotional-roller-coaster musical performances that they are seemingly easily able to deliver. His raw and passionate vocal gives way to impressive guitar performances encompassing the likes of BB King, Howling Wolf and John Lee Hooker with a touch of Jazz styling, to smooth out his lead and rhythm performances…

Adding underpinning and mood to their music is keyboardist Mark Reilly, who understatedly defines the emotion and power behind this band. Drawing from Gospel, Jazz and Southern Rock Roots, he knows when and how to make the songs happen, come alive and imbibe them with the right emotion in the moment!

The rhythm section of Jimmy D (JD) and Bobby Fry (JR) provide a solid backdrop for the melodically charged performances and they know exactly where to find the groove and get the audience up and moving…

If you enjoy infused rock-blues such as The Allman Brothers, Alabama Shakes, the Tedeschi Trucks Band or the Atlanta Rhythm Section then you will find their performances and original music enjoyable and inspirational with a “Whoop-Whoop” (as happened with the audience all night) thrown in for a good time!

Note: I will have the pleasure of seeing them in March at the Singer Song Writer Festival in Cape May New Jersey and I am looking forward to more of their GREAT music and performance!
